A Dream Come True

So, I think we're denying adulthood.

Never, in my wildest dreams, would I have thought I'd end up living with one of my lifelong friends in a house that has a backyard touching the backyard of another of my dearest friends! And to make it all sweeter, 2-3 other close friends come over to our neck of the woods to hang out.

Erin and I, Beth and AJ, Mary, Tiffany, Scott. This weekend AJ started the gate. He sawed down part of the fence that separates our yard from the Jones's yard. He's working on the latch (one that Erin can reach). I walked over to their house and into their back door (without knocking) about 5 times times this weekend.

Friday night, we had a cookout. Everyone brought something. Erin and I, usually in charge of dessert, brought things for an ice cream sundae bar. Good idea E! :) (And vegetables of course. I have a history in produce.) Tiff brought chips. Mary brought soda (and Kyle). Beth and AJ supplied the grill, burgers, and dogs (not to mention the grillmaster). And Scott brought his winning personality. All we did all night long was sit out on the deck and chat (with an occasional game of Texty Twist). Jeremy, our corner neighbor, came over and hung out too. Even Roxy was invited and enjoyed herself roaming around the yard and begging for food. We had the Cavs game on inside and only took periodic updates on the score (through the window). Despite playoffs, it felt like a sin to be inside on such a beautiful night. As AJ and Jeremy discussed the property boundaries and the girls were swinging on the deck swing, I sat back and took in the scene...

We're definitely growing up. No more feeling like we have to GO SOMEWHERE or DO SOMETHING. We are all just content with each other's company. All we wanted to do on Friday night was to relax and have a good time with good friends. In the meantime, we all tried to deny the fact that we're definitely that group of "20-somethings" who don't have the desire to overdo it on a Friday night. We all realize that the younger version of ourselves would have looked at us and thought "old" and "boring".

It all started with the gate. Thanks AJ. :)

My comment (of course overly excited and giddy) was "You guys, this is like a dream come true!" Back in high school, I could never have dreamed that 9 years later the same cast of characters would still be getting together for a Friday night of fun. Nor would I have dreamed that that scene would be EXACTLY what I wanted.
