It would be easy to describe the actual event. You can probably create a pretty good mental image even if you weren't able to be there. It had a very typical race day feel. It looked a lot like this:
250 people in Stadium park
Lots of pink!
Walkers,
runners,
water,
cookies,
fruit,
chips,
smiles,
tears,
hugs,
friends,
and sneakers!

Like I said, that is the easy part to describe. It can also be fully supported by the photos included below.
However, the tougher part to put into words is the feeling of pride, accomplishment, compassion, and love that came as a part of this event. Volunteering is one thing. Pouring your heart into an event to honor one of your best friends and her family is an entirely different thing. It just so happens that volunteering doesn't even hold a candle to what I participated in over the last few months.
Before the race began, our dear Mary imparted a few words on us. She said that her goal is to change her part of the world. Our part of the world. We did. We are making an impression on our family and friends, we are making an impression on our community, our work is touching students who are faced with the HUGE obstacle of the evil that we call cancer.
I am happy to announce that we raised $9,000 at our event. This number is above and beyond anything we could have dreamed. We are thrilled! I'd like to thank ANYONE who was involved in any way. The event was a manifestation of many hearts coming together for one event, in honor of one person...Josette Beddell, mother of 5, hero to many.
With love.
