Med School Prom

I was invited to Med School Prom. Let's just say that it turned out better than the last prom I went to! Nathan and I met over winter break. He's from Canton and is in medical school in Cincinnati. Nathan invited me down for the weekend to join him for the formal event that the med students hold.

I headed down on Friday. When I got there, Nathan made a delicious dinner. Then we headed out to the Hofbrauhaus for a birthday celebration. The Hofbrauhaus has a really neat atmosphere. It is a microbrewery. I've heard the German food is top notch. The best part, there were people standing/dancing on the benches randomly throughout the establishment. Fun! :) I managed to keep my feet on the ground. So the trip to the Hofbrauhaus served a good purpose. I had a chance to meet a few of the people who would be attending the "main event" on Saturday night. It was a nice ice breaker.

On Saturday, we got a slow start. Waffles and eggs for breakfast. YUM! (I ate well this weekend.) We watched the Notre Dame basketball game (Nathan's alumni). Then we headed out for a tour of the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. This trip turned out to be entertaining for different reasons. It was great to see the facility and start to understand the daily routine of a medical student. The buildings at UC are all unique due to the fact that they have an architectural school as well. During the tour we found that the newest building of the medical school was flooding. There was water leaking everywhere from the 7th floor down. PROBLEM. We made sure someone knew about the problem before we left. Apparently, there was no major damage. All is well that ends well!

After the tour it was time to get done up for the formal! We did our best to get all dulled up and headed off to downtown Cincinnati. The event was held at The Phoenix building. We went a little early to make sure things were running smoothly (Nathan holds a leadership position in the Medical Student Association). Before we knew it, guests were arriving! :) We stood and chatted for awhile while people filed in. Dinner started, we ate, had dessert, and then...let the dancing begin! I think it's fair to say that we danced the night away. I also think that it's necessary to include the fact that by the end of the night...I thought my feet were going to fall off! :) I met a lot of great people. Nathan's friends were all very gracious about including me in conversation. Most managed to as about kindergarten which was comforting. Seven hours later...we called it a night and headed home for sweatpants!

Sunday was a relaxing day full of football. (Go Cardinals!) Before the games started we went to see a movie. We caught the second game a a friend's house.

The entire weekend was comfortable and fun. It was an interesting experience to meet so many new people. I'm glad to have had the opportunity to experience something different and new and fun! :) Thanks Nathan!
